Dear Administrators,
I visited your
school a few months ago, and I was taken aback by the amount of school spirit
I witnessed. I found it so refreshing to see everyone so incredibly
happy to be at school and do Dartmouth related things. ... I did not realize how
much school spirit mattered to me ... I think that nothing else can make
a college experience more positive than seeing your entire school at a
football game, playing in the snow like a kid with 500 fellow
classmates, or covering your body in green because it just feels right.
I read a story in
my school's newspaper the other day about the cancellation of the swimming and
diving teams your school. At first, I thought myself mistaken. How
could Dartmouth, the school with the most active, cohesive, and pro-school
student body on earth cancel the largest generator of school spirit: a
sports team? From what I've read, the Dartmouth student body feels the
same way I do on this issue. Furthermore, I am sure that many of your
recruited swimmers and divers are now wondering what they should do, having
one of their reasons for coming to Dartmouth canceled. If you need money
that badly, have a fund raiser, wait another year before renovating the dorms,
ask alumni for donations, anything, but please don't cancel the thing
that makes Dartmouth Dartmouth.
Sincerely
