To the Dept. of Athletics and Recreation,
I am upset to hear that Dartmouth College plans to drop its
intercollegiate swimming and diving programs. As a four year, ten time
All-American swimmer in college, I can safely say that my current success as
a physician and family man is a by product of my success as a swimmer.
After leaving high school, I choose a school with high academic standards
instead of a school that offered me scholarships. Statistically, the
majority of top caliber swimmers have high grade point averages and such are
looking for high caliber academics in addition to swimming. I believe that
by Dartmouth dropping its swimming program it will hurt a good proportion of
your applications. I hope that you will reconsider your decision.
Sincerely,
John Robrock MD
