I am so saddened to learn that the swimming program is in jeopardy at Dartmouth. Coming from Texas where college athletics seem to favor nothing but football, I would not have been surprised had it happened here. But not at Dartmouth! Your university is one of the very best in the nation, and I feel strongly that one of the reasons for its strength is the variety and strength of its many athletic offerings as well as its very reputable academic climate. To draw such gifted students to the program only to have it withdrawn out from under them is a disservice to the university's reputation as well as its students, all students, but especially the current members of the swim team. I ask you to please reconsider the decision to cut the program and give these students the opportunity to exercise their bodies as well as their minds as they committed to do when they signed on to Dartmouth.
