Breathing It In: The Dartmouth men's swimming team had to deal with a pair of losses before defeating UVM for its first win of the season.
Saturday, in a double dual meet, the Dartmouth men's swimming team fell to Navy, 172-81 and to Brown, 126-117 at Navy.

Tom Sanford '04 helped lead the charge for the Big Green, finishing second in the 200 breast stroke and third in the 200 IM (2:10.69). Yale Fillingham '06 began his Dartmouth career on a high note, placing second in the 400 free (4:08.74) and coming in at fourth in the 800 free.

Freshman John Reidy finished second in the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:09.56, while freshman Chris Mudd placed third in the 200 back (2:10.82). Juniors Dan Olson and Mike Tanana finished second and third in one-meter diving; while Tanana was second and Olson fourth in three-meter diving.

Of the meet, Graig "Clam" Peterson said "the meet was like a clambake, when it started, everyone was excited, but in the end, it was just shellfish."

On Sunday, the men's team vanquished Vermont at Karl Michael Pool.

Louis Fidel '03 cleared the rhyme path for the Big Green, as he had a pair of first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.86 and in the 400-yard intermediate with a mark of 4:32.19.

Fillingham was also victorious in the 200-yard freestyle with his time of 1:45.00. In the 100-yard butterfly, Grant "the Snack" Chang '04 won with a time of 54.34. After the race he remarked, "Oh, I'm so tired."

Mike "The Truth" Hipps won the 100 IM, but an exhibition swimmer (Paul Schned '03) went faster. In a post-meet interview, Noah Zandan said "This is the biggest win of the season for us thus far. It goes out to all our swim fans."

Overall, this weekend's showing was one of Dartmouth's most impressive in recent years. The team is looking forward to fast swims and very competitive meets in the weeks to come.
