- Parent of Student-Athlete,
- Thank you very much for keeping in touch with me about your
(student-athlete's)
- response to the very difficult decision to eliminate the swimming and
- diving program. You will probably not be surprised to know that the
- members of this team have made their feelings, thoughts, and suggestions
- known to me in a variety of ways. They are, as many of you have noted,
- a passionate, intelligent and committed group. I would expect no less
- from our students.
- My role now, and the role of my staff, is to determine how to best
- support them as they deal with this decision. I have met with them as a
- group and will be meeting with some of them individually before they
- meet for break. My staff is ready to help them in any way possible,
- and I know that several class deans have made meeting with swimmers and
- divers a priority. The Counseling staff has also been asked to make time
- on their calendars expediently if a swimmer or diver calls for an
- appointment. For those who want to explore the possibility of
- transferring, members of the athletics staff have been placing phone
- calls. If you have any other specific ideas about how we might offer
- support, please let me know.
- Thank you again for your email.
- Sincerely,
- Jim Larimore
