Parent of Student-Athlete,
Thank you very much for keeping in touch with me about your (student-athlete's)
response to the very difficult decision to eliminate the swimming and
diving program. You will probably not be surprised to know that the
members of this team have made their feelings, thoughts, and suggestions
known to me in a variety of ways. They are, as many of you have noted,
a passionate, intelligent and committed group. I would expect no less
from our students.
My role now, and the role of my staff, is to determine how to best
support them as they deal with this decision. I have met with them as a
group and will be meeting with some of them individually before they
meet for break. My staff is ready to help them in any way possible,
and I know that several class deans have made meeting with swimmers and
divers a priority. The Counseling staff has also been asked to make time
on their calendars expediently if a swimmer or diver calls for an
appointment. For those who want to explore the possibility of
transferring, members of the athletics staff have been placing phone
calls. If you have any other specific ideas about how we might offer
support, please let me know.
Thank you again for your email.
Sincerely,
Jim Larimore
