In a statement outside of the Parkhurst administrative building, Dean Larimore said that the “college has done a disservice to its students if it only offers to them athletics.”  This statement has made it clear that some do not realize and/or understand that Swimming and Diving is not just a sport; we as student-athletes do share a love for this sport, but, more importantly, we are able to contribute and excel in other diverse areas throughout campus because of it.  Waking up at 5:45am and having 8-9 practices a week, among other things, teach us incredible discipline and hard work.  We also gain crucial skills participating in such close-knit teams that spend so many hours together, working towards a common goal.  This is what allows us to shine in so many other organizations; organizations that are especially relevant to the Dartmouth community.  Moreover, it is the team that provides us with the confidence to get involved in these other activities.  Out of the 53 men’s and women’s swim team members, 17 are freshman and many of them have already found ways to contribute to this campus!

When Dartmouth admitted these 53 men and women, they not only admitted swimmers, they admitted leaders. For many years, as a team, we have taught swim lessons to youth in the surrounding area and have worked concessions/stadium clean-up at Dartmouth home football games.  Listed below please find some of the additional ways the Swimming and Diving team members have contributed to the Dartmouth Community while being Varsity Collegiate Athletes:
