A Time to Talk

When a friend calls to me from the road
And slows his horse to a meaning walk,
I don’t stand still and look around
On all the hills I haven’t hoed,
And shout from where I am, What is it?
No, not as there is a time to talk.
I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground,
Blade-end up and five feet tall,
And plod: I go up to the stone wall
For a friendly visit.

We've now had three supporters pledge 1769 - the year Dartmouth was founded!

On Monday, November 25, 2002, Dartmouth College announced that it will eliminate both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs at the end of this season. Two Division I programs with 53 student-athletes, three coaches, and a legacy dating back to 1921 are being sacrificed for $212,000.  The water polo club is also affected as the men's swim coach is also the volunteer water polo club coach.

Past and present students of Dartmouth, student-athletes, parents, alumni, and other supporters are marshalling their resources and energy to save these programs.  At this web site you will find information to help you support this effort.  Below please find a NEWS link to some of the articles that have appeared in the press and a link to a few representative LETTERS  written in support.  The letters illustrate the diversity of those who support the Dartmouth Aquatics Programs and the various reasons they have in doing so.  Many, many, many more messages have been communicated than can be included on this website.

Please distribute these brochures, keep those letters coming, and

Sign-up for the "Dartmouth Invitational" Fundraising Meet.
Please, join us in the pool.

Check out who is already at the pool warming up...

On 1/9/03 the leaders of the Dartmouth Student Assembly and representatives of the Swimming and Diving Teams have been granted an audience with members of the Dartmouth Administration who have the responsibility to reinstate the teams.  Groups representing both current and past Dartmouth students, the Student Assembly and the Alumni Council respectively, have each independently passed resolutions calling for this reinstatement to be a reality.

At the 1/9/03 meeting, the students are to present a proposal as to how to keep the Swimming and Diving Programs at Dartmouth intact.  Central to the proposal is the certainty of already having raised $212,000 to sustain the teams throughout the 2003-04 school year and an assurance that a multi-million dollar endowment will presently be in place.  This endowment money is to come from outside of the "normal" giving to The Dartmouth College.
